The Riverbend Inn & Vineyard completed planting it’s vineyards in the spring of 2004. A total of 12 acres were planted at the corner of the Niagara River Parkway and John St. located in the heart of the Niagara Wine Country. The warming effect of the winds from Lake Ontario, with rich nutrients in the soils which were once the bed of the “ Lake Iroquois” whose shores once reached the Niagara Escarpment. Will allow these grapes to reach optimum ripening in the fall.
Premium wine making varieties were selected for this vineyard including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay adjacent to the inn on the north side by John St. On the west side of the property Vidal plantings are featured while Sauvignon Blanc was planted to the south of the Inn for maximum sun exposure. The first harvest of these grapes is anticipated for the fall of 2005.
